Idealistic to its core, the YMCA opened its first American chapter in Boston way back in 1851, and it has been fulfilling its charitable mission non-stop every since.

The YMCA has many opportunities available for volunteering, but it is a large and complex organization that has many openings for part-time or full-time paid employment as well. If you share the YMCA´s unselfish, caring and giving focus, and would like to become more deeply involved, possibly even building a career around your idealism, then you owe it to yourself and your community to investigate the possibilities for employment that are available with this outstanding organization.

Positions with the YMCA

Full-time openings are available at the YMCA. There are also part-time opportunities at YMCA camps for those who want to help youth in particular. Some positions available with the YMCA include:

  • Membership/Marketing Director: takes responsibility for recruiting new members and retaining old ones through effective customer service, cross-promotional marketing, development of internal strategies, and creating effective public relations campaigns
  • Human Resources Manager: manages all YMCA employees in a specific chapter, responsible for recruitment of volunteers and hiring of paid workers, as well as maintaining good employee relations while effectively monitoring performance
  • Program Director, Sports and Aquatics: plans, organizes and staffs effective youth sports and aquatic programs for members and the public in general
  • Grant Writer: writes grant proposals and prepares accompanying budgets, distributes and administers funds when projects receive funding
  • Health and Wellness Director: creates programs for the community that emphasize good nutrition, stress-free lifestyle and physical fitness, recruits staff to oversee program implementation
