Costco Wholesale Cashier, in Chantilly, Virginia

Cashier Job Description

The cashier must multitask to some degree, because they must greet the customer cordially, check out all of the items correctly and efficiently, and sometimes also bag (or re-bag) the merchandise. This can be tricky if the customer likes his or her groceries in a certain order or is not happy with how you have packed their items. You are on your feet all day, which can be tiring because you get a lunch break and a 15-min break over a 6 hour shift. Patience is also important in this job because some customers can get pretty frustrating at times, and you need to be able to stay calm in the face of an angry customer.

Costco Wholesale Interview Questions

The interview was comfortable. The first interview is basic and they ask some questions about your background, why you want to work there, etc. I wore a polo and a skirt and it was fine (since the dress code of Costco is a polo and jeans). The interview was fairly casual. The second interview was with a different manager who conducted a kind of personality test and asked what you would do in response to a certain difficult situation. In general, the process was pretty laidback and comfortable.

Salary and Benefits
Salary - Costco Wholesale, Cashier is $16/Hourly.
Decent benefits. 401 K and healthcare provided, even for part-time employees!

Working Conditions
The working atmosphere is pretty positive and cordial. All co-workers are pretty laidback and kind to each other. The managers are also pretty friendly and positive, as long as you are doing your work at a moderate pace and working well. A lot of them are concerned about your well-being as well. Costco definitely was a place where I made friends.

Physical Requirements
You are always on your feet. Some heavy lifting is required if you are put on returning items to the shelves or on pushing shopping carts. Comfortable shoes are a must!

Other Costco Wholesale Job Information
Applying on-line is not as useful as walking in. Walking in and talking to someone in the main office is much more effective towards getting the job.
