Shirt Designer Trainee Job Description

Assisted senior designers in the development of mens shirts for a major shirt manufacturer. Responsible for selecting fabric (cotton, polyester, knit, etc.) as well as color and pattern. Also responsible for selecting the type of collars and cuffs, tapering, buttons and any other design enhancements. Sample shirts were then manufactured based on specifications and selected components and sent to a review team for approval. Shirts that were not approved were either redesigned or denied.

I was initially interviewed to be an administrative assistant but was found to have an aptitude for the design work, so it was added into my job description.

Salary and Benefits
Salary - BVD Inc, Shirt Designer Trainee is $17/Hourly.
Approximately $35,000 annually based on today's market. Annual and sick leave, very minimal health benefits. No retirement benefits at the time.

Working Conditions
Strict 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. regular hours with potential for overtime. Offices were on an upper level floor of the Empire State Building, so there was a beautiful view. However, it would take 15-20 minutes to go up or down in the elevators in the morning and/or evening.

Physical Requirements
No extraordinary physical requirements.
