A Typical Day As A Real Estate Agent
I am a real estate agent and on this particular day I am scheduled "floor time". Everyone in my real estate office gets scheduled for floor time throughout the month. What this means is that you must show up and be available for potential leads, either walk-ins or phone calls. A lot of agents hate floor time because it can be boring, however, I typically get some pretty good leads and leads mean money!
I'm scheduled for 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. I roll out of bed around 8:00AM, take a quick shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, feed the dog, take the dog out, grab my coffee mug and am out the door at 8:45 - I only live fifteen minutes from the office. Life is good. This particular morning is slow, got a couple phone calls about homes we have listed. However, I'd bet quite a bit they were what we call "nosey neighbor calls".
I also get two listing calls. These are calls where the client wants to list their house with my company - since I'm on "floor" I get to take them. I made the appointments and began working on the comparable market analysis for each one. This brings me up to around noon and the next scheduled agent is lurking around, I ask him if he wants to take over his floor time early (I'm tired of being tied down here and have better things to do!) he says sure and takes over for me.
I have a closing at 3:00 PM, so I run home and check my mail, take the dog out and save money by eating lunch at home. It's 2:00 PM and I get a call from the other agent involved in my closing - they're at the house doing a "walk through" and have a few questions.
I take care of it and make sure everything's alright and head to the Abstract Company for closing. My seller, the other agent and her buyers are all on time, and within an hour the deal is done. No problems and everyone is happy! I'm home by 4:30 PM, feed my dog, take her for a walk, and get supper going.
That's about it ! A few straggler phone calls at night, however, my cell phone gets turned off typically at 8:00 PM - Gotta have some ME time! I love my job. I've had MANY different careers and have finally found my niche. Although there are MANY negative aspects of this field, for me, the freedom outweighs all of them.
