Growing Health Care Careers
There is no doubt that there have been literally millions of new jobs added to the health-care sector and this number is expected to grow in the coming years, more so than in any other industry. Along with this growth you should expect growth in wages and salary as well. Employment in health care will continue to grow for several reasons. The demand for health care will increase as the "baby boomers" continue to age and have higher health care needs. Because life expectancies are on the rise there will be a much greater demand for home health care and nursing and residential care. Also, factor in that aging children are relying more on long-term care facilities for their parents.
As medical technology continues to soar, the survival rate of the terminally ill and injured patients will also grow, which will result in the need for more health care workers. It will be possible to identify and treat conditions that were not treatable in years past. Industry growth will also occur as a direct result of the shift from inpatient care to less expensive outpatient and home health care. And because of the drastic improvements in diagnostic tests and surgical procedures and the desires of patients to be treated at home, home health care will continue grow.
Many of the occupations that are expected to grow the fastest are concentrated in the health care industry. These would include the areas of home health aides, medical assistants, physical therapist assistants, and physician assistants. Jobs outside of the inpatient hospital sector will also grow especially with pharmacy technicians and personal and home care aides. Traditional inpatient hospital jobs are not the only option for health care workers anymore.
