So You Want to be a Teacher?

A favorite teacher has influenced your desire to enter into the teaching career. Maybe you have wanted to become a teacher since the time you were in 8th grade. You know that you can make it happen, but you just don’t know where to start.  One thing to do is go to “Career Days” at your school.  You can also talk to your Guidance Counselor and get some help and information.  Another way is to do some research on the internet, where there is a vast amount of information on the subject.  A career in education requires not only a degree in a specialized area, but it also requires a license in the state that you plan to teach.   Becoming a Teacher

Teaching children between two and five is one of the early childhood specializations.  Educating children between kindergarten and fifth grade is the elementary level degree.  These degree programs also exist in the middle age school children.  Specializing at the high school level tends to be more specific in teaching one subject like math, art and science, with each district having its own policy. With an education degree you can enter into adult remedial education, special education and education administration.  A high school diploma is required before entering college to get your teaching credentials.

Earning potential is $47,602 to $92,965 during the school year, according to the U.S. Department Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are obtainable online and recipients of doctorates often earn higher salaries.  Teaching jobs are in abundance in the U.S. and are very rewarding.
